TUMBACH – Richard
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father Richard John Tumbach on April 13, 2015 at the age of 77.
Richard was born on January 26, 1938, the youngest of four boys born to Alex and Pauline. He attended Baden School, a one-room country school near the family farm. Richard attended welding school in Saskatoon and was known for his ability as a welder and as a mechanic. He often said all you really need is duct tape and baler twine and you can fix anything. He worked in sales for Noble Blade in his earlier farming days.
He married Dolores on December 29, 1959. Richard and Dolores made their home on the Tumbach homestead that has been in the family for more than 100 years!
Richard was a “character” in the community! He was a man of quick wit, antics, gags and a genuine heartfelt sense of humour. Most anyone who knew him has at least one story to tell.
He was known far and wide in no small part because of his musical talent and gift of playing the accordion. Even though Richard could not read a single musical note he played for many, many functions over the years, having played his first wedding dance at the age of 17.
He had a gentle touch with animals and enjoyed tending to his garden. He enjoyed curling and could often be found with a crib board close by.
He chose to live a life of family, friends, neighbours and community. Richard was an active member of the Liebenthal K of C, and the Maple Creek Elks. He was a councillor for the RM of Happyland, a board member on Mendham-Burstall Credit Union, and served on the Liebenthal Recreation Board, and Lemsford Park board.
Richard is survived by his children Kendra (Andy) Volk, Kevin (Tara), Cindy (Kevin) Miller, and Lori Tumbach; grandchildren Jessie, Jamie, Devin, Britanna, Carson, Daylin, Adam, Ryan, and Madison and great grandson Riley. He is also survived by his brothers Ed (Anne) Tumbach, Roy Tumbach, sister-in-law Anna Tumbach, brothers-in-law Albert (Doreen) Garrecht, Larry (Jeanette) Garrecht and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his wife Dolores (Garrecht), parents Alex and Pauline Tumbach and by his father and mother-in-law Nick and Agnes Garrecht, his brother Frank and sister-in-law Aileen.
Family and friends gathered in Liebenthal Parish on April 16, 2015 at 11:00 am with Father Nguyen and Deacon Bob. Interment followed at Blumenfeld Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Binkley’s Funeral Home, Maple Creek. Donations can be made to Blumenfeld & District Heritage Site.
