A young owl looks down from its perch in a tree in Garry and Marlene Packard’s front yard on Walsh Street. The owlet is one of two offspring of a great horned owl family that took over an old hawk’s nest in a spruce tree in the Packards’ yard this year. The couple never knows what remains of an animal they will find in their yard each day – from rabbit to duck to gopher, depending on what the male owl brings back to feed his young. Conservation officers came to put the owlet back in a tree after it fell out and was found wandering along the boulevard last week. Photo by Marcia Love
