Locals finish strong at Canadian Finals Rodeo

The Canadian Finals Rodeo wrapped up on Sunday in Edmonton with all local competitors placing in the top five.
Jared Parsonage from Maple Creek competed in the bull riding event and finished his weekend in fourth place, earning $44,794.28 during the season.
During the five-day rodeo finals Parsonage placed first in round one, second in round two, ninth in round three, fifth in round four, and eighth in round five.
Dean Edge, whose mother is from Maple Creek, finished third in tie-down roping. He amassed a total of $45,677.43 during the season.
Edge stayed largely within the top five during his performances. In round one he finished in ninth, round two in third, round three in fifth, in round four he placed eighth,  and second in the fifth round.
Competing in the novice bareback event, Wyatt Maines won a total of $9,097.64 which left him in second place.
Maines started the weekend placing second in rounds one and two, third in round three, third in round four, and first in round five.
Ty Taypotat, originally from Nekaneet First Nation, finished fourth in the bareback event. Taypotat finished the season winning $50,710.75.
Taypotat started the weekend in second after the first day, placed fifth in the second and third round, first in the fourth round, and fourth in the final round.
The final placing is made by reviewing the total earning for the season and the finals, with the most earned in a season winning first place.
The Farmfair International Stock Dog Competition also took place over the weekend in Edmonton during the rodeo.
There were 49 competitors for the event, and after two rounds of preliminaries the top ten went on to compete in the finals.
Dale Montgomery finished within the top ten during the preliminary and went on to finish third overall in the competition.
Jamie Gardener from Shaunavon finished in fourth.
The first and second place spot went to Matthew Hadley-Roberts from Valleyview, Alta. who competed with two dogs.
