DAVY – Phyllis Lorene (nee Unrath) ~ December13, 1930 – April 20, 2016
On April 20, 2016, at the age of 85, Phyllis Davy passed on to meet her Lord and Saviour, while surrounded by her family at the South Calgary Hospital. Congestive heart failure impacted her health but not her spirit and will to be with her cherished family.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert (Bob); daughters, Janet (Keith Graham) and Karen (Merv) Newton; and three granddaughters, Julia, Treena, and Yvonne.
She was predeceased by her parents, August and Elizabeth Unrath, her sister, Bernice (Davies) and her brother, Gilbert.
Phyllis was born in Maple Creek, Sask. and raised on the family farm in Golden Prairie, Sask. She worked there as postmistress and later transferred to Assiniboia, Sask. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bob, and together, they moved to Swift Current. There she worked at City Hall doing payroll. In 1972, they purchased the King George Hotel in Burstall, SK. After selling in 1977, Bob and Phyl semi-retired in Maple Creek. In 1982, they built a motel in Empress, AB. After 10 years, they retired in Redcliff, AB until they moved to Okotoks in 2013 to be near their family. Phyllis was very devoted to her family, especially her granddaughters. She enjoyed gardening, travelling, camping and fishing. She loved being with family and friends, playing cards and sharing plenty of great food. We are extremely fortunate to have had her in our lives.
A celebration of Phyllis’ Life will be held on May 17th, 2016 at 2:00 pm, which would have marked Phyllis and Bob’s 61st Wedding Anniversary. It will be held on daughter, Janet’s rural residence (20003 De Winton Riding Club Road SE) north east of Okotoks.
