MARTINSON – Orville Christian Martinson passed away Dec. 10, 2016 in Brooks, Alta. Orville was born on Sept. 5, 1936 in Maple Creek, Sask. to Ivor Christian Martinson and Gertrude Sunde.
Orville grew up on a farm just north of Maple Creek. While in high school Orville played football and baseball. After high school he continued to play baseball for the Maple Creek Mohawks. Some activities Orville enjoyed through his life were playing golf with his close friends, Danny Isabelle and Les Burton. He also enjoyed curling with Allen Mosher and other friends. He was also very particular about his back yard. He enjoyed having a green thumb. There must have been something about the colour green, because Orville could not get enough of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. No matter where he lived, he always cheered for the Roughriders!
Another big passion for Orville was working. He started out early working on the farm with his Dad. He later got into the trucking business after this he went to school to become an electrician. He started a company with a couple friends called Triway Electric. Then he moved on to Regina and started work for Reda Pump. He eventually became a Senior Marketing Engineer and travelled all over the world to do business and take care of clients. Throughout his career he lived in Regina, Edmonton, Tulsa, Singapore, Houston and Calgary, then retiring to Brooks, Alta.
Orville had passion for his family as well. He kept in touch with his four brothers, Burt Sanderson, Bobby Sanderson, Buster Sanderson, and Bruce Newkirk. Orville was a great father. He was not always around but quality time was better than quantity time. He sacrificed his life for his son Joel. Being there for all the special moments, like all the hockey tournaments, the graduation, the wedding and for all the grandchildren. Orville loved his entire family.
But the biggest passion Orville had was for his life partner Frances. He looked after her with such love and kindness right until the day she passed on. And once she passed, Orville wanted to be with her. We believe Orville passed on because of a broken heart. Now they are together again in Heaven.
He was an amazing, intelligent and caring man. Looking after people and making sure they were ok was what he did. Not only for a career, but for a lifetime. Anyone who knew him was blessed. If you had the pleasure to know him you knew he did it “his way”. Until we meet again Orville, we miss you and love you.
