Hansen, Kimberley Ruth
Posted on April 30, 2014 by Maple CreekHansen – Kimberley Ruth Hansen of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the age of 46 years. She was predeceased by her mother, Therese Hansen, her grandparents, Lyle and Ruth Brickley, her aunt Berdeen Hayes, and her cousin Patsy Hayes.Kim leaves to cherish her memory her father, Hans Hansen (of Olalla, B.C.); her sister Melissa (Allen) Adrian and family Vaughn Pawlak, David Pawlak, Zachary Adrian, and Megan Adrian (of Calgary, Alta); her brother Kevin (Zdenka) Hansen and family Ethan Hansen and Dominik Hansen (of Peace River, Alta); her aunt Jackie Brickley and uncle Darcy Brickley (of Kipling, Sask); and cousin Wendy (Jim) Corrigan, cousin Edward Watts, and cousin Aileen Watts (of Airdrie, Alta). We will all miss her dearly.
Kim was born on July 17,1967 in Calgary, Alberta. Although developmentally delayed, she became more than anyone could imagine. She lived most of her life with family, first in Calgary until she was 16, then in Kennedy until she was 31, and then in Maple Creek until she died at 46.
Kim went to school, first to Christine Meikle School in Calgary, Alta and then to a boarding school in Oxbow, Sask. Following school she began participating at Kipling Industries while she lived in Kennedy, and then at Opportunities Inc. when she moved to Maple Creek. Kim lived at home until she was 42 years old; then moved to the Horizon House group home; and then moved to the Cypress Lodge Nursing Home.
She died on April 18, 2014 in the Saskatoon Royal University Hospital. Everyone loved Kim wherever she was.
A poem always hung on the wall of our family home that reminded us of who Kim was and where she came from. It is called Heaven’s Very Special Child.
Heaven’s Very Special Child

A meeting was held quite far from Earth
“It’s time again for
another birth,”
Said the angels to the Lord above.
This special child will need much love
Her progress may
seem very slow
Accomplishments she may not show
And she’ll require
extra care
From folks she meets
way down there.
She may not run or
laugh or play
Her thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways
she won’t adapt
And she will be known
as handicapped.
So let’s be careful
where she is sent
We want her life
to be content.
Please Lord, find
parents who will do
a special job for you.
They will not realize
right away
The lead role they are asked to play.
But with this child
sent from above
Comes stronger faith and richer love.
And soon they’ll know
the privilege given
In caring for this gift from Heaven.
Their precious charge,
so meek and mild
Is Heaven’s
very special child.
After Kim passed away I added the following verse…
Forty-six years later
on Good Friday
The angels gathered again to say,
“It is time now for
us to bring
Our special child home this Spring.
Kimberley’s time
on Earth is done.
Her love has abounded and hearts she has won.”
From Heaven she came and to there
she’s returned,
Leaving memories of her joy for all concerned.
Kim was a gift from Heaven, sent here to show us how to love. If you knew Kim you knew her love. From the moment she saw you she would give you one of her big smiles, enthusiastically offer you a warm hug, and then ask you your name (even if she knew you your whole life). When you were around Kim you knew you were accepted, important, and special to her. Kim’s love was contagious. No matter where she went she made a friend, and her friends and family were the most valuable thing to her.
Kim’s death is a loss to family and friends alike. She was special to everyone who knew her, and everyone she knew was special to her. We will all miss her smile, her innocent sense of humour, her happy heart, and the joy she brought to our lives each day. But, most of all we will miss her love. She was sent here from Heaven to show us how to love, and that was accomplished. Now she has returned to Heaven where she belongs.
A beautiful funeral service was held in Kennedy, Saskatchewan in the United Church on Friday, April 25 at 11 am to celebrate and honour her life. This special time of remembering was followed by interment in the Kennedy Cemetery and a tea in the Friendship Center. If anyone so desires, memorial tributes in Kim’s name may be made to the Saskatchewan Institute on Community Living #108-103rd Street East, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 1Y7.
