Ford, Gordon

Posted on August 31, 2017 by Maple Creek

FORD – Gordon Ford was born May 25, 1936 in Maple Creek, died August 14, 2017 in Maple Creek.
Gordon attended Motherwell School until 1947 when the school closed and he was bussed to Maple Creek. Throughout his school years, Gordon was active in sports, receiving a Grade eight sports award.
He was also active in the 4H Beef Club and The Poultry Club. Along with others from Canada he travelled by train to Toronto for the Canadian Competition, where Maple Creek won the Canadian Championship for Poultry.
Upon completing school, Gordon worked for Acorn Construction, who was building the No. 1 Highway from Piapot to west of the overpass. While working for Acorn, Gordon met the love of his life Myrtle Montgomery. They were married January 9, 1957 in Saskatoon. On January 9, 2017 they were married 60 years. They had “once in a lifetime love”.
Gordon and Myrt lived in various locations. In 1960 they moved to Elbow, Saskatchewan where Gordon moved some of the first loads of dirt into Gardiner Dam. In 1963 Gordon and Myrt settled on the Ford family farm. He drove school bus for a few years.
In 1967 they bought the Con Wilnechenko farm. This is where they settled and raised their family and are still residing today.
Gordon and Myrt had four children: son Glenn, daughter Brenda and twins Donna and Gayle.
Gordon is survived by his wife Myrtle, daughter Brenda (Roger Lavallee) and daughter Donna; his sister Donna (Bill Fletcher) and their children Bill Jr. and family and Heather; brother Gary (Peggy) Ford, nephew Jason Ford (Kortnee and Riley), niece Jackie (Wade) Robinson (Connor Gawell); Sharon (Lloyd) Ritchie, nephew Clint (Lisa) and family; nieces Calin and Kim Ritchie; brother Bryan Ford; Ken’s children Crystal, Perry and Jewell; three grandchildren Ian Patick Ford and his mother Patti; Ryan (Jozette) Stanko and Robyn (Patrick) Stanko.
Gordon was pre-deceased by his father Hilton in 1968, brother Ken in 1974, son Glenn in 1981, his mother Ethel in 2003, his daughter Gayle in 2013.
Gordon loved to curl and sing and read. He was an animal lover – dogs, cats. He even had names for some of his cows that came when he called their names.
Some men from Unity came to hunt every fall, they stayed and Gordon and Myrt’s and were and I quote “treated like royalty and fed like kings.”
Gordon was councillor for the RM of Maple Creek from (1971 to 1979); for the RM of Big Stick from (1990-2009).
The coffee pot was always one and friends and neighbours gathered there to discuss and solve the problems of the world.
One evening I whispered to Gordon that he had something to say when he got to Heaven:
1. Tell Glenn about Ian, how he has grown into a wonderful young man who just got engaged and will be married in 2018.
2. Tell Gayle she will become a grandma twice in 2018 and that we love her and miss her very much.
If there are things you want to do, don’t put them off because life can change in an instant.
Gordon left the farm on June 18, 2017 and was never able to return to the place he loved with all his heart. He will be greatly missed his family and many friends.
