LASANTE – Edward
Edward (Ed) Phillip Lasante of Maple Creek, Sask. passed away peacefully at home with his wife Nadine, at the age of 81 years old after a 10 month brave battle with prostate and bone cancer.
Ed was born NW of Ponteix, Sask. on December 11, 1935 to Madeleine & Alfred Lasante. He grew up in Ponteix, Cadillac and Maple Creek with his 12 brother and sisters. One of Ed’s most vivid memories of his childhood was the tragic loss of his brother Armand in a snowstorm. After Ed completed grade 8 he went to work with his eldest brother Joe and his father on a railway gang and then he took on various jobs in Saskatchewan & Alberta – most notably ranching and logging. Ed’s family moved from the Pontiex area to the Maple Creek area in 1956. Ed later went to the Maple Creek area as well and worked for different ranchers like the Guenther family and also for Johnny Meier doing some logging. In 1967 Ed finally caught the eye of Nadine Herman whom he made his bride on June 7 of 1968, and they were blessed in April of 1969 with a beautiful baby boy Armand. Ed worked for The Government of Saskatchewan – Department of Natural Resources for over 35 years. He loved to talk about the people he worked with at Cypress Park and the fun times they had in the “good old days.” Ed loved the outdoors and the Cypress Hills was one of his favourite places to be at and he shared lots of stories about out in them there hills. Ed was always the adventurous type which came from being a 3rd great grandson of Alexander McKenzie (the explorer) and grandson and great grandson of some very well known NWMP scouts Gabe and Louis Leveille (Gabe’s father). Ed’s love of Maple Creek was evident in the fact that he never wanted to leave and it took a lot of convincing to get him anywhere on a holiday but he did love to visit his ocean family on Vancouver Island. He loved animals and around animals is when his true gentlest side came out, his patience to get close to even the wildest cat or dog was seen over and over. He seemed to acquire animals from others and they were always well treated. His dog Bella will miss him terribly. Ed also loved country music and rodeo’s, and had a great time when he was finally convinced to go to the NFR in Las Vegas with Armand for his 75th birthday. He also was thrilled to be a Grandpa and loved spending time with his granddaughter Aurora. He would play the guitar and sing to her and they both loved this so much. Ed is survived by his loving wife Nadine of Maple Creek, his son Armand (Heidi), and very special granddaughter Aurora, Airdrie, his siblings Leo (Evelyn), Seven Persons and Marion, Parksville, and Corinne, Swift Current, and Agnes (Bob), Medicine Hat, and Bert (Colleen), Brooks, and Louise, Maple Creek, and John (Bonnie), Medicine Hat, and Fritz (Barb), Brooks, and Brother in Law Jim Herman, Maple Creek. He is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews that he loved very much. He was predeceased by his parents Alfred & Madeleine (Leveille), and siblings Joseph Lasante, Betsy Boliantz, Armand Lasante, and infant Edward Lasante. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held on November 11, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Elks Hall in Maple Creek, Sask. Everyone Welcome. Memorial Donations may be made to the Medicine Hat SPCA
