KRIWOKON – Irene Guthmiller/Kleinknecht/Stevens/Kriwokon was born May 20, 1922, daughter of Ludwig and Eva Guthmiller. After having been orphaned at 2 years old she was raised by her older sister Annie and her husband Edwin. On December 2, 1943 she married her first husband John Kleinknecht. She was an active ranch wife helping move cattle, summer fallow, seed and stacking bales, beside raising 3 children. On Sept. 23, 1963 John passed away. She and her eldest son (17 years old) ran the ranch together.
In April 1965 Irene married Henry Strums of Piapot. They moved to Medicine Hat and she worked at a greenhouse and later a motel. September 26, 1986 Henry passed away in the Maple Creek Hospital.
November 7, 1987 Irene married Victor Kriwokon. Victor had just lost his wife and they met in the lawyer’s office. She was recently living in the Cypress Lodge here in Maple Creek.
Irene was predeceased by 8 other siblings; Annie, Emma, Lizzie, Tilly, Clara, Rosie, Helen, and a brother Emil; Her daughter Betty (Bohnet), her grandson Devon (Kleinknecht) and on April 24 by her oldest son, Don (Kleinknecht).
She leaves to cherish her memory 1 son Clint (Debbie) Kleinknecht, 4 step children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
