WATSON – Mildred Oline ~ 1921-2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Millie Watson of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother on December 19, 2017.
Millie was born on March 17, 1921 at the Shaunavon Hospital to parents Sigurd and Johanna Swanson, a first generation Canadian, she was one of four children; with brothers Eric and Earl and sister Nellie. She had many great adventures with her siblings and fond memories that she shared in later years.
Millie was very active in many aspects of the community over the years, including leading many youngsters for the Robsart 4-H sewing group, the W.I., writing articles for the Reno Reader for many years as well as contributing to the Reno 51 history book, “Our Side of the Hills”. Her cooking, baking and hospitality was known far and wide and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
We can’t talk about Millie’s hobbies without mentioning her love for gardening and playing cards.
Millie was predeceased by her infant brother Earl; Mother Johanna; Father Sigurd; her first husband Cecil Swift; sons, Donald and Gerald Swift; brother Eric and sister Nellie.
Millie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert “Bob” Watson; her sons Glen (Wendy) Swift of Calgary, AB, Dwaine (Angela Dickenson) Watson of Medicine Hat, AB, Warren (Nancy) Watson of Brooks, AB; Grandchildren, Jody (Dylan) McGuire of Vancouver, B.C., Robbie (Jaylene) Watson of Medicine Hat, AB, Valeri (Sean May) Watson of Lethbridge, AB, Jessica (Ryan) Gust of Brooks, AB and Jeffrey (Laura) Watson of Brooks, AB; Great-Grandchildren Jarren, Aidan, Eric, Vance, Ian and Audrey.
A celebration of Millie’s life was held on Wednesday, December 27th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maple Creek United Church, 301 Maple Street, Maple Creek Saskatchewan. Interment was held following the reception at the Robsart Cemetery.
Millie’s family would like to express our most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Acute Care Facility in Maple Creek for their outstanding care of Millie during her final days.
Donations in Millie’s memory be made directly to the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility, Long Term Care, c/o Cypress Credit Union, or to a charity of one’s choice.
