Health care service disruptions at rural hospitals are unacceptable

Posted on August 24, 2021 by Maple Creek

“Temporary disruptions in service” – is what the Saskatchewan Health Authority names a “NO
SERVICE” situation in rural Saskatchewan hospitals.
Maple Creek, Leader and Shaunavon have all been experiencing “disruptions” in emergency
services and lab services, and all Southwest hospitals have experienced actual hospital closures. This seems to be perfectly acceptable as far as the provincial government is concerned, and has become a “norm” for rural Saskatchewan hospitals.
It doesn’t matter that there are tens of thousands of Saskatchewan citizens at Cypress Hills
Park all summer. It doesn’t matter that there are farmers and ranchers working with big machinery and livestock all summer. It doesn’t matter that there are tens of thousands of
people travelling in the Southwest on the Trans Canada Highway every day. It doesn’t matter
that there are highway tractor units travelling north and south on the very narrow and dangerous Hwy 21 every day, winter and summer. It doesn’t matter that there are rodeos, ropings, barrel racing events, etc. going on weekly in the Southwest.
And it doesn’t matter that Southwest Saskatchewan citizens have contributed – and continue
to contribute – millions of dollars in tax money, and after-tax money, and volunteer time to support our local healthcare system so we can be assured it is there when we need it.
So here is the reality – it may not be there when you need it.
Check out Sask Health web pages and note the many “disruptions”, while your tax dollars continue to be spent on a service that isn’t there.
This is disrespectful to the ratepayers who support the healthcare system in good faith; and
the fact that there are closures – excuse me, “disruptions” – as well as the fact that this situation has been ongoing for many years points to mismanagement, on a continuing basis.
It never was acceptable, and it certainly is not acceptable now!
This from a provincial government who has constantly reminded us that “We stand up for rural Saskatchewan”!!
Submitted with respect for our loyal, caring and hard working healthcare friends and neighbours. We fully realize it is not easy working for a boss who can’t see past the boundaries of Regina.
