High praise for Jasper Centre art exhibition

The artistic inspirations are diverse and intensely personal, often taken from the seemingly mundane.
For Savannah Mass, it was the contents of a box – a favourite CD, her late grandfather’s rosary, dried flowers from her partner, and a skull.
It was also a toolbox containing items she carries daily, such as an old wallet that has been a companion for 10 years.
For Kerrie Chabot, it was the gate to her mother’s garden on the family farm. She recalls as a child waking in the morning, and heading to the pea patch in bare feet and pajamas, her special place.
For Ev Southwood, it is the duality of winter, how harshness is connected to the achingly beautiful.
For others it was a vase of flowers, a farmhouse, or an animal … objects and beings imprinted on their hearts.
Welcome to Maple Creek Art Club’s latest exhibition, “My Favourite …”, at the Jasper Cultural & Historical Centre. It will be up until the end of December.
As the title suggests, the show presents the artists’ favourite drawings and paintings.
Donny White, Jasper board chair, said he was immensely impressed by the quality of the exhibits.
The art club, which meets regularly at the Jasper Centre, was formed in 1995 under the guidance of artist and former teacher Noni Dornstauder. It has brought in many instructors who have focused on different mediums and topics.
In an information sheet provided at the exhibition, the club say that it is more than being about art and artwork.
“We encourage one another, share ideas and enjoy the friendships made. New members are always welcome.”
