Seventy-eight people took part in the New Year’s Day “Toboggan Party” at Cypress Hills park. The number is about the same as that in previous years, said Melody Nagel-Hisey, park area naturalist The noon-5pm event took place during a break in the spell of extreme cold over the last two weeks that has seen temperatures plunge to minus 36. As well as tobogganing people enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows. It was one of three New Year’s Day events. The others were “Move It or Luge It!” and an afternoon snowshoe hike.
