It was an occasion to celebrate Maple Creek children, to mark a milestone in their development, and rejoice in budding hopes and dreams.
Thursday, June 2, was graduation day for nearly 30 Jack & Jill Pre-School students.
The Armouries was packed with family members for the hour-long ceremony led by Jack & Jill teacher Becky Newby.
There was singing, poetry, the handing out of diplomas, snacks and juice, and a chance to photograph graduates in balloon-festooned arches.
“We are so excited to celebrate these wonderful kids and want to thank you for joining us on this exciting day,” she said.  Graduates were divided into two groups. The first included students who had finished their first year of pre-school and will be returning, the second featured those who had completed pre-school and will be going to kindergarten in the fall.
Newby welcomed graduates one by one to the stage, announcing their names and life ambitions.
The future of law and order in Maple Creek should be in good hands if Kate Blythman, Silas Lane, Ari Nickel, Kash Huery and Kaide Glennie pursue their aims of joining the RCMP.
The medical profession should also be in good health, thanks to Sara Leslie, Emmaleigh Noble and Caroline Calder, who want to be doctors.
Meanwhile, Holden Burton and Harper Orr hope to become chefs, Walker Weiss and Bohdin Guckert want to be cowboys, Reid Harrigan sees himself as a buckin’ bull rider, and Raeleigh Whitney dreams of becoming a cowgirl.
Striking a different note is Lee Dawson, who has rock star ambitions.
The other graduates include Sienna Knodle, dentist; Alyx Hasfjord, life saver; Lincoln Bye, police officer/firefighter; Jordon Burges, builder; Emma Newby, mom; Maren Christiansen, Lego builder; Grady Mason, firefighter; Emily McFarlane, train track worker; Sawyer Bertram, teacher; Frankie Zoethout, artist; Ellie Blythman, life guard; and Brooke Bauer, hair dresser.
Missing from the line-up of graduates was Beckham Brown.
Newby introduced Jack & Jill’s “amazing” teacher aid, Heather Udal, saying the pre-school would be lost without her.
“The kids have picked out a few of their favourite songs this past year to perform for you.
“Heather and I would like to thank the parents for putting their faith in us as influencers in their children’s lives. These kids are absolutely amazing individuals and we couldn’t be more grateful to have spent the school year with them.”
As the students exited the stage, Udal presented them with certificates.
Newby thanked the pre-school’s board of directors for their hard work: Bobbi-Jo Blythman; Christina Chistiansen; Ali Harrigan; Jenna Mason; Alyssa Braun; and Janette Leslie.
“We wouldn’t be able to offer this great space for learning without your dedication,” she said.
She also thanked Susan Goett for being a substitute this year, and Sheldon Frank for providing the sound system.
“Have a great night. One more round of applause for our Graduating Class of 2022.”
