The fall season sports are up and running with numerous teams playing in tournaments and league play.
Officials clinics:
We can’t offer our volleyball programs without officials. Upcoming in-person clinics are Tuesday, Sept 13 at Shaunavon High (6:30) and Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Irwin School in Swift Current (5:30 start). The plan is to offer some ‘on court’ experience also. We welcome anyone who wants to learn to officiate volleyball to attend either clinic (plus it is a great refresher for experienced officials).
The SHSAA held an online student volleyball official clinic this past week. The link for the one hour video is on the SHSAA website (just click on image). It is a terrific video covering the major rules/procedures for officiating the sport. Highly recommend all officials, coaches and team members watch this video.
Football:
On Saturday, Sept. 3 SCCHS Colts football team hosted Moose Jaw Central. The Colts were on the losing end of a 50-9 score. The Colts rebound with a 14-0 road win over Moose Jaw Vanier on Saturday, Sept 10. The Swift Current has a bye in the 12-man league schedule this coming week, with games against Yorkton and Weyburn in the following weeks.
In 9-man football, Maple Creek and Shaunavon traveled to Regina Mosaic Stadium for exhibition scrimmages on Saturday, Sept. 10. Maple Creek and Shaunavon played a half each versus Foam Lake and Broadview teams. There was lots of learning, team and confidence building for our SWAC squads. What an awesome experience for these young athletes!!
