Hub heading for ‘really good year’

Sales and visitor numbers at the Southwest Saskatchewan Tourism and Investment Hub are looking strong, Maple Creek Town Council was told.

Councillor Betty Abbott, who attends Hub meetings, said the centre off the Trans-Canada Highway opened later this year than in 2025.

As a result, April and May figures were down.

In 2025, visitation from April to May was 5,894 and sales totalled $19,420.

This year the comparable numbers were 4,801 and $18,621.

June also proved to be an excellent month, said Councillor Abbott.

If the trend continued, the Hub was looking at a “really good year”.Councillor Abbott, speaking at the July 22 Town Council meeting, reminded the community to feed in information about businesses and job opportunities to  Councillor Corrine Collura, who runs the Hub.

Councillor Abbott also said the Hub had recently welcomed a guest speaker: Kevin Fruhstuk, deputy director of Investment Priorities and Attraction in Saskatchewan, Ministry of Trade and Export Development. He is part of a group bringing development to Saskatchewan and suggested that the Hub made an inventory list of all it has to offer the world.

Councillor Abbott said the Hub’s annual general meeting would be held in the fall.
