Huge drugs bust near Maple Creek

Nearly 2,000 pounds of dried cannabis was seized by RCMP during a traffic stop in the Maple Creek area.

Other items found in the vehicle included hashish and THC resin.

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces a “high” sensation.

A British Columbia man has been arrested and charged with drug offences.

Istvan Mikula, 56, of Rosedale, is slated to appear at court in Maple Creek on Thursday, January 14, 2027.

The bust involving Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) was announced on Monday, although it took place on Friday, September 4.

Maple Creek RCMP helped the RTU with the investigation.

The RTU was carrying out safety patrols on Highway 1, near Maple Creek, when it stopped an eastbound vehicle at about 12.30pm.

because of an alleged violation of Saskatchewan’s vehicle equipment regulations.

During the search, officers discovered and seized 1,928 pounds of dried cannabis, 56 pounds of hashish, and 15 litres of THC resin.

An adult male, who told the investigators he was travelling from British Columbia to Ontario, was arrested at the scene.

56-year-old Istvan Mikula from Rosedale, BC, is charged with:

one count, possession of illicit cannabis for the purpose of distribution, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act, two counts, possession of an illicit cannabis derivative for the purpose of distribution, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act, andone count, possession of proceeds of crime under $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code. Istvan Mikula is scheduled to appear in court in Maple Creek, SK, on January 14, 2027.
