Several bylaws were adopted after being read three times at the April 12 Town Council meeting. They related to:
•The Town of Maple Creek entering into an agreement with Rodney Perrin to provide services for opening and closing graves at the Maple Creek Cemetery between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2025;
•The Town of Maple Creek entering into an agreement with the Queen for the renewal of the Maple Creek Trans-Canada Visitor Reception Centre lease agreement for five years – April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2027; and
•The Town providing for the incurring of $700,000 debt to finance the cost of building the North Lift Station.
Tony Goode, the interim Chief Administrative Officer, told Council that the cost of the North Lift Station project is $1.7 million.
The Town has received permission to forward $1 million left over from the lagoon project towards constructing a new lift station.
The remaining funds will be borrowed over 25 years, which is just over $40,000 a year, said Goode, with payments, principal, and interest based on current interest rates.
“We borrowed it through the Credit Union,” he said.
He added that the Town would be getting a federal government rebate on two-thirds of the $1 million.
