It is surely the ultimate stress reliever.
What could be more cathartic than running and screaming – all that inner negativity and balled-up angst released in a few lung-bursting moments?
The “Run and Scream” proved a popular activity at Sidney Street School’s track-and-field festival on Friday, June 3.
A traditional First Nations game, it is a way of building up vocal cords and stamina, and increasing cardio.
The idea is to take one breath while running and screaming at the top of your lungs. The spot where you are out of breath and done screaming is then marked.
It was the first time that Sidney Street School had held the event.
Of course, the day featured many other beloved activities, such as running, throwing balls, three-legged races, and high-jumping.
Grade 6s from Maple Creek Composite School were invited to join in the fun.
Events started at 9.30am and continued until 2.30pm. It meant plenty of time to build up an appetite, as well as thirst. Fortunately, a food booth was available with hotdogs and pulled pork. Sidney’s School Community Council also set up a water tent on the playground.
Rob Stewart, Sidney principal, said the track and field was the first one that the school had held for a while because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
