Maple Creek’s Jason Heistad will be performing at the Veiner Centre in Medicine Hat on Saturday, April 11.
Accompanied by friends on keyboard and guitar, he will play for the centre’s first barn dance between 7pm and 10pm. Tickets have already gone on sale.
Raised on the Prairies, Heistand was initially interested in drums and piano, but at the age of 13 won the Saskatchewan Junior Fiddle Championship.
Six years later, he cut his first CD and went on the road as bass guitarist with Canadian country artist, Ronnie Prophet.
He has since worked in the recording studio and played fiddle with many notable musicians, including Colter Wall, on tour in Canada and overseas.
A professional sound engineer and composer, he has worked for many TV series, including Corner Gas. He has received many Canadian Country Music Award nominations.
From 1994 to 1999, Jason won the Saskatchewan Country Music Fiddle Player of the Year and received Canadian Country Music Award nominations. He also won Saskatchewan Best Instrumentalist of the Year in 1998.In Maple Creek, Heistad, who recently married Meryl, has opened Bluebird Music Col, a recording and teaching business.
Opening hours for the centre are Monday, 9am-4pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9am-9pm; Friday, 9am-4pm. Closed on Saturday and Sunday.
