Leslie, Cindy

LESLIE – Cindy Leslie passed away on April 16, 2014 at the Maple Creek Hospital. She was born in Maple Creek on January 20, 1957 the third of four children to Archie and Lorraine Bowyer. 

Cindy attended school in Maple Creek and enjoyed being active and outdoors in her youth.  Some of her fondest memories were of playing with neighborhood friends, tow-truck rides with her dad, and chatting with her mom.  Cindy tried her hands at several different occupations throughout her life including retail, waitressing, bartending and bookkeeping for the family business. In 2004, she found her passion working as an education assistant at the Maple Creek High School. Helping children succeed brought Cindy much joy and she was very proud of the students she worked with.

On May 1 of 1981, Cindy married John Leslie and they were later blessed with two children, Amy and Shane.  Cindy’s family was her pride and joy and she worked hard to make sure her children had everything they could need or want growing up.   A very creative woman, Cindy was often sewing her own clothes, costumes for the kids and even a couple of wedding dresses.  She would bake elaborate and delicious birthday cakes and bring together the whole family to celebrate.

Cindy loved to learn and was always looking for a new hobby or project.  She had a passion for creating new things and restoring old things.  She loved the beauty in nature and going for walks.  After these walks she would often come home with a pocket full of rocks which she would polish and keep. 

Cindy is predeceased by her parents, Archie and Lorraine Bowyer, father and mother-in-law Bob and Bernice Leslie, brother-in-law Charlie Blakely and brother-in-law Darsi Gopaul.  She is survived by her husband John, her children Amy and Shane, her sisters Debbie Blakely and Sharon Bowyer-Gopaul, her brother Darcy Bowyer (Joanne Bowyer), brother-in-law Monty Leslie, brother and sister-in-law Lorrie and Lona Hunter as well as several nieces, nephews and their families.

During her illness, Cindy developed a love for butterflies and often considered her journey to be a transformation into something beautiful just like a caterpillar changes to a butterfly. We will always remember the wonderful woman that we were blessed to know and take comfort in knowing that she has indeed finished her transformation and gone to rest in a beautiful place.

We would like to thank the staff at the Maple Creek Hospital, especially the nurses, for making us as comfortable as possible and for doing an amazing job caring for our mom. 

Funeral services were held on April 23 in Maple Creek, Sask. with Rev. Eva Stanley officiating.  Interment took place at the Maple Creek Cemetery with Pastor Hans Martens.
