Blanchard, Shirley Iona

Blanchard –Shirley Iona was born October 27, 1921 and passed away at the Gull Lake Special Care Home on March 11, 2015, at the age of 93.
The funeral service was held on March 16th at the Tompkins United Church with Reverend Eleanor Rockabar officiating. Music was provided by Nora Rudolph. The interment was at the Tompkins Cemetery. The pallbearers were Clayton McGregor, Ross Lundgren, Darcy McGregor, Blake McGregor, Ryan McGregor and Garth McGregor. The Honourary Pallbearers were Conrad McGregor, Kerry Lundgren, Wade McGregor, Trudy Campbell, Karen Kavanagh and Regan Austin.
Iona was born on the family farm north of Tompkins, Sask. and later the family moved south of town. Iona worked as a telephone operator, and a waitress and at the Co-op store. Iona married Ebert Stanley Blanchard on August 4, 1944. They farmed south of Tompkins until Stan passed away in 1979. Iona moved into Tompkins until she had a stroke in 2001. She then spent 10 years at the Palliser Regional Care Centre before moving to the Gull Lake Special Care Home. Iona was a life member of the Diana Rebekah Lodge, a life member of the United Church Women and a member of the Tompkins United Church.
Iona was predeceased by her husband Stan; a son in infancy; parents Ernie & Ettie McGregor and father and mother-in-law Ebert & Annie Blanchard; son-in-law Douglas Cameron; brothers Raymond, Leslie, Clifford, Glenn, and Earl; sisters-in-law Elnora McGregor, Vera McGregor, Frances (Laverne) Carlson; brother-in-law Leonard Lundgren; nieces Roxy McGregor-Robinson, Lois (Kim) Migneault, Jo McGregor, and Doris Lundgren; nephews Wayne McGregor, Keith Forsyth and Stan (Arlene) Willows.
Iona is survived by her daughter Doreen Cameron (Joe Kutschall); granddaughter Dixi (Rod) Anderson; great grandsons Tyler and Brendan; sister Bernice Lundgren; sisters-in-law Gladice (Wally) Roen and Gwen McGregor; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gull Lake Special Care Home, The Palliser Regional Care Home or the donor’s charity of choice.
