SCHMIDT – Donald Elmer Schmidt ~ Jan. 23, 1934 – Sept. 24, 2016.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Elmer Schmidt on Sept. 24, 2016 at the age of 82.
Donald will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years Daphne Anne Schmidt, his son Wade (Novalee) Schmidt, daughter Holly (Curtis) Hilstrom, grandchildren Nicole (Sean) Vandenabeele, Kevin (Tonisha) Schmidt, Ryan Swenson, Rylie Swenson, Keisha Swenson and his great granddaughter Kyla Vandenabeele. Sister Clara Galli, brothers-in-law Frank (Liz) Ortt, David (Sharon) McDowell, Lynn McDowell, sisters-in-law Faye Southwood, Theresa Armstrong and Beth (Bob) King, several nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends.
Donald was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Edith Schmidt, his in-laws Evans and Lenora McDowell, his sister June Ortt, brothers-in-law Alex Galli, Sonny Southwood, Trevor (Wendy) McDowell, Reg McDowell, Bill McDow- ell, Jack Armstrong, his sister-in-law Vi Mc- Dowell and two nephews, Gordie McDowell and Murray Jeffrey.
Donald was born on the family farm south of Consul on Jan. 23, 1934 the second child and only son of Edith and Stanley Schmidt. In 1961 Donald married Daphne Anne McDowell. Donald bought the family farm in 1969. Donald enjoyed many interests while on the family farm; quarter horses, cattle, team roping, cow riding, and calf roping. Donald was a member of the Battle Creek roping club. He was a councillor for the RM of Reno and he belonged to the Masons. Donald and Daphne retired to Medicine Hat in 1996. Retirement brought much joy with golfing, bowling, pool, fishing, casino and coffeeing with all his many friends.
