WEATHERSON, Evelyn Pearl (nee Sveund) ~Dec. 22, 1924 – March 5, 2017
Evelyn Weatherson passed away peacefully on Sun., March 5, 2017 at the age at the age of 92.
She was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Weatherson; parents, Peter and Emma and sister, Hazel Sveund of Maple Creek, Sask., as well as Howard Olson’s sisters, Hilda and Muriel.
Evelyn is survived by Howard and Barbra Olson; Luela Pederson of Medicine Hat, Alta.; Doreen Mortimer of Cochrane, Alta.; Henry and Mary Sawatzky of Winnipeg, Man.; Randy and Lisa Olson of Consul, Sask.; Robin and Tim Haswell of Grenfell, Sask. and on Bill’s side of the family, Ruth Cummings, Jamie Booth, Don Weatherson, Margaret Beaubien and Alex Weatherson – all from Ontario, also the extended members of the listed families.
Evelyn was born on a farm near Robsart, Sask. Peter, her father, served as a Pool Delegate and Reeve for many years in Robsart. Since there were only two girls and Hazel was living with her grandparents, a lot of the work was on her shoulders. She would be rounding cattle on horseback and, even as a girl, she was hauling grain to the elevator by wagon.
Later she went to business school in Regina, Sask. and then to work for several insurance companies in Calgary, Alta.. There, she met and married Bill Weatherson in 1956.
In 1959, Bill’s work as a Seismologist took them to Argentina and Brazil for two years. On returning, most of their careers were spent in Calgary. Bill’s life was cut short in 1986 at age 58 due to asthma and emphysema. Evelyn persevered as a widow for another 30 years despite medical problems.
She loved gardening and growing flowers, she took a keen interest in nature, news and politics. She was a generous contributor to many charities.
Her wish was not to have a service, Evelyn and Bill’s urn’s will be interred at the Robsart Cemetery.
