MACPHAIL – On Thurs., May 25, 2017, Margaret MacPhail (nee: Anton), beloved wife of the late Arnold MacPhail, passed away peacefully with family by her side, at the age of 91 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Patrick (Charlotte) of Fox Valley, Brian (Brenda) of Calgary, Rosalee (Howard) Obritsch of Fox Valley, Mary Ann (Glen) Bishoff of Medicine Hat, Kathleen Arndt of Saskatoon and Arnold (Tricia) of Medicine Hat; 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Rose MacPhail, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Arnold, grandson-in-law Clayton Yeast and great grandson Kasen Obritsch.
She is the last surviving child of the Rochus Anton family. Fox Valley area was home to Margaret for 78 years before residing in Medicine Hat. She was an avid baker and gardener.
Mom shared her quick wit and sense of humour, generous spirit with everyone she knew. She was also an employee of Canada Post for 17 years. Mom will be especially missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Her generosity shone through to them with special monetary treats and gifts of cookies, hence her being called “cookie grandma.”
The staff and residents at St. Joseph’s and the Hospice became her family for the past two years.
Our family would like to graciously thank everyone at Carmel Hospice and St. Joseph’s Home for the care, kindness and love they showed mom throughout her time there.
Family and friends gathered for prayers in the Pattison Chapel on Sun., May 28 at 7 p.m.
The funeral mass was celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Mon., May 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Albert Sayson celebrant. Interment has taken place at the Fox Valley Cemetery.
