THORSON – Helen Annabelle Thorson, 89, of Regina SK. passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Regina’s General Hospital. She was born on December 6, 1928 in Braken, SK. to Otto and Grace Acker.
Helen was a school teacher, serving the communities of Ravenscrag, Orkney and Maple Creek over her 30 year career. In October 1950, she married her first husband Lloyd Sunde and together they had two lovely children, Blaine and Coreen. They lived a happy life in Ravenscrag and Maple Creek until Lloyd’s passing in 1963. In 1965, Helen embarked on a new journey, marrying Gillmour Thorson, and adding four step-children, Marlene, Donald, Dale and Nickie, and one baby of their own, Glenn. This was a busy and rewarding time in Helen’s life.
She is survived by her son Glenn (Chris) Thorson, step-children, Marlene Thorson, Donald (Darlene) Thorson, Dale (JoAnn) Thorson and Nickie (Ted) Worthing, also daughter-in-law Gloria Ford and son-in-law Bob Leier. Helen was blessed with 22 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, including the most recent arrival, born on her 89th birthday. She is also survived by her sister Doris Corbin, sisters-in-law Doris Poisson, Clarabelle Thorson and Deanna Thorson.
In addition to her husbands Lloyd and Gil, she was preceded in death by daughter Coreen and son Blaine, her parents, brothers Albert, Bill and Dale, and sisters Kathleen and Eileen.
Helen will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Her family would like to thank the staffs of Ultimate Care, Parkview Villa and Riverbend Crossing for the care and support they gave Helen for the last several years. It was greatly appreciated.
Funeral service for Helen will be held on Friday, January 26 at 2:00 pm at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Maple Creek. Donations in Helen’s memory can be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries.lhm.org
