Hanson, Victor Floyd Beverly

Posted on January 25, 2018 by Maple Creek

HANSON – Victor Floyd Beverly Hanson passed away peacefully on January 11, 2018. Floyd was born on May 18, 1932, the third of seven children of Peter and Elena Hanson of the White Valley community. His childhood was spent on the family farm south of Dollard. He attended Brownville School and White Valley Lutheran Church, where he loved being part of the choir. Floyd loved music from an early age, and taught himself to play piano and guitar, and sang with his siblings.
In the summer of 1958, Floyd and his brothers Glennis and Bud purchased the R.T. Stewart Ranch along Conglomerate Creek in the Cypress Hills. The ranch became known as Hanson Ranches. Floyd worked with his brothers on the ranch until 1968, when he married Winnifred Ann “Pat” Verpy of Eastend. Floyd and Pat moved to Maple Creek that year, where Floyd operated a feedlot.
Floyd was always musical. He sang and played guitar with his brothers Glennis, Sid, and Pete and sister Bernice as part of the Hanson Family gospel quartet throughout his life. He also sang and played at countless community gatherings and social functions over the years alongside his brothers and other talented community members such as Don Hanchar and Wilkes Parsonage. His original composition, a jaunty guitar piece entitled “Floyd’s Tune”, appeared on the first Hanson Family album.
Pat and Floyd had two sons, Victor Craig born in 1969, and Kevin Boyd born in 1971. They raised their sons in Maple Creek and Floyd continued to work at a feedlot, first at one owned by Frank Gordon and later at a feedlot of his own cattle on the Stewart Ranch. He also drove school bus during this time. Floyd and Pat moved back to the ranch near Eastend in the late eighties and Floyd continued to work on the ranch for many years. Pat and Floyd welcomed their first grandchild, Jarrod Donald, in 1989. They were a devoted and loving great aunt and uncle to numerous grand-nieces and nephews as well over the years. In 2012, Floyd welcomed granddaughter Lily May Anne, and soon after Eva Nicole joined the family in early 2013. Floyd always loved kids and was never prouder than when he became the grandfather to two little girls in one winter.
In his later years, Floyd still worked hard on the ranch, and the family shares many fond memories of him sharing the quad with his dog Jed while gathering cattle. He enjoyed playing rummy in town with his friends and attended many family and community functions with his good friend Clarabelle Thorson. Floyd continued to play guitar and sing with his brothers.
Floyd is predeceased by his wife Pat, parents Peter and Elena (nee Borsheim), brother Bud, sister Gloria, sister-in-law Mary Hanson, and brother-in-law John Stewart. He is survived by his sons Craig (Shelley) and Kevin (Kendra), grandchildren Jarrod, Lily, and Eva, siblings Bernice, Glennis (Enid), Sidney, and Peter (Anne), sister-in-law Winnifred Hanson, as well as dozens of loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbours.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Binkley’s Funeral Service, Maple Creek & Leader. Condolences may be offered to the Family at binkleysfuneralservice.com
