Swift Current Minor Football U12 league Championship comes home to Maple Creek for the second year in a row.
The team consisted of Cecil Baynton, Luke Moorhead, Dayton Cronkhite, Finn Gustafson, Kace Wasilow, Teigan Brost, Cruz Packard, Aryl Hysuik, Paislee Wakelam, Camryn Bock, Makenna Robertson, Ryder Nash, Josh Logan, Josh Beaupre, John Francis, Cord Moorhead and Wyatt Schneider.
The season started off on August 29 with a pre-season opener against the Shaunavon Cowboys.
The Maple Creek Raiders won 36-0. On September 19 the Raiders played the Swift Current Golden Gophers where they had another convincing win 22-0.
The following week the Raiders had to play two games. The first one was against the Swift Current Jaguars, where they had a narrow loss, 12-13. The second game was against the Cowboys and, once again, they snagged the win, 18-7.
October 3 saw the Raiders facing the Jaguars again. Short of players still due to COVID restrictions they narrowly lost 21-18.
Playoffs started on October 11th with the Raiders still short of players. They faced the Golden Gophers again and won 27-6. This meant on October 17 they were to face the Jaguars one last time. This would be the first time playing them with a full lineup. With two losses against this team, they weren’t wanting to make it a third! The kids were fired up and the cheering section was loud! The Maple Creek Raiders came away with a very convincing win of 28-6!
A huge thank you goes out to head coach, Ryan Wakelam and his team, Christian, Dayne, Ty and Tyler. The team would also like to thank Roberson Implements for the pizza at their windup supper and a heartfelt thank you goes out to Rodney, Lee and Natalee Perrin. Their support is very much appreciated.
