Shay Peters changes the price of gas at Pioneer Co-op gas station to 99.9 cents a litre on Dec. 11. The drop came as the price of oil fell below $60 a barrel for the first time since July 2009. It is a result of increased global oil production at a time when demand is lower due to the slow economies in Asia and Europe. Gas prices have been dropping steadily for the last three months, and are expected to fall even lower, according to analysts. The relief at the pumps is a sharp contrast to the $1.299 per litre drivers were paying in Maple Creek in July. Gas was even cheaper in Regina, where the lowest price reported was 84.9 cents a litre, according to GasBuddy.com. The average price across the province is 97.6 cents a litre. As of yesterday, the lowest price in the country was reported in Edmonton, where prices have slipped down as low as 76.9 cents a litre.
