Planned power outage at health facility on Wednesday

Posted on September 4, 2015 by Maple Creek

A planned power outage will take place at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 1-6 p.m. The outage is required for the contractor to address electrical issues between the main and backup systems.
The upgrade will allow the seamless transition of power from the main system to a backup system in the event of a main power loss.
Although there will be no power throughout the entire facility during the five-hour timeline, several of the facility’s services will continue to be offered. Emergency services will be available for urgent cases. Acute care inpatients will still be cared for during this time, but those requiring additional care will be transferred to another facility. Ambulance services will still be available. Long-term care residents will remain in their homes.
Lab and X-ray, primary health care clinic appointments and community health services will not be available during the outage.
A large diesel-powered generator will be on site to provide power to a number of critical pieces of equipment.
Cypress Health Region reports this is a single instance and no additional planned power outages are currently expected at the facility.
