In February 2019, Wynyard RCMP was contacted by an adult female to file a report of historic sexual assault. Since the initial report, five other individuals have provided information to police in Saskatchewan involving the same individual. Investigators have determined the victims encountered the accused through his role as a teacher in Saskatchewan.
As a result of the investigation, Wynyard RCMP has charged Gerard Loehr (DOB: 1962-12-09) from Ottawa, Ontario with five counts of sexual assault and six counts of sexual interference relating to incidents that occurred between 1990 and 1996.
At the time of the alleged incidents, Loehr was a teacher in Wynyard and Foam Lake schools in Saskatchewan. He may have substituted at other schools in the area as well. Due to the length of time that has passed since he taught in Saskatchewan, we do not have the exact details about which schools he may have taught in. He may have taught a variety of subjects while in Saskatchewan; however, he was most recently a music teacher in Ottawa. He left Saskatchewan in 1996 and continued to teach at schools in Ottawa after 2000. As the result of a related investigation by Ottawa Police Service, Loehr was charged in 2019 with sexual assault and sexual interference.
Loehr was arrested at a residence in Ottawa February 17, 2020, and was transported to Saskatchewan to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. His next appearance is Thursday, February 20, 2020, in Wadena Provincial Court at 10:00 a.m.
While charges have been laid in relation to these reports, there may be other victims.
