Maple Creek celebrates Economic Development Week

Posted on May 11, 2021 by Maple Creek

Maple Creek joins communities around the globe in recognizing Economic Development Week (May 9-15).
Economic Development Week is a chance to highlight the efforts and importance of the economic development field. Community and Economic Developers are responsible for generating economic growth, job creation and improving life quality.
Over the past few months, Gillian Moch, Economic Development Officer, has been working on a plan for our community. This plan was approved by Mayor & Council at the April 27 meeting of council.
The plan outlines six strategic goals for our community:
1. Foster Business Retention & Expansion
2. Participate in Development of a Regional Economy
3. Grow a Culture of Entrepreneurship
4. Marketing & Promotion
5. Enhance Investment Readiness
6. Develop Sector Specific Strategies
Along with the Town’s local plan, Gillian has also been working in partnership with RM of Maple Creek, Nekaneet First Nations & local business owners in developing an action plan for the community. This plan is in the process of receiving final approval from all partners and work has begun in some areas of the action plan.
During Economic Development Week, social media channels will highlight the role of economic development in our community.
