Appeal for sponsors

Posted on November 18, 2021 by Maple Creek
Terrific trio: Nicolette Avery-Weitzel, a staff member of the Salvation Army, is flanked by volunteers Eva Keller and Phyllis Henderson. The three were preparing meals for seniors - something the Salvation Army does every week, delivering the food on Wednesdays.

An appeal has gone out for sponsorship for the December 4-5 Santa Shuffle.
The Salvation Army has sent out letters to businesses outlining sponsorship opportunities for the event, which raises funds for school feeding programs.
“Through sponsorships and participation from local businesses, we can continue growing our event and ensure our school feeding programs remain a vital part of Maple Creek,” the November letter says.
“COVID-19 has changed many things, but it won’t stop us from coming together to raise funds and awareness about the ongoing needs in our community. Join us as we work together to make a difference in Maple Creek during this pandemic and beyond.”
The letter says that this year’s corporate sponsors will have logos on shirts.
“Although we are late to be able to get anyone else on the shirts, you can still add advertising and merchandise to our race kits and receive public recognition on our social media. And it is not too late to register a team or an individual on santashuffle.ca.”
The Santa Shuffle, which features a 5K Fun Run and 1K Elf Walk, will be hosted in 37 communities across Canada.
“Each year, dedicated participants come together to raise much-needed funds for The Salvation Army,” the letter said. “With COVID-19 impacting many communities, we need your help more than ever.”
Speaking to the News-Times, Major Charlotte said the Santa Shuffle provided a wonderful opportunity for sponsorship.
“You can collect sponsors, people can go online to sponsor you, or you can just ask people to donate to the cause. Just tell them ‘I’m doing it and, if you want, you can pop by and make a donation’.
“Any monetary donations are tax receiptable. If somebody wants to come in and do that, we can definitely work that out.”
Major Charlotte said The Salvation Army was looking for donations of draw prizes, as well as items for runners’ loot bags.
“Last year, we did a draw, so anybody who was part of the run would have so many entries and they would be able to have their name in a draw, which will be live-streamed this year.
“So, if anybody wants to donate prizes for a draw, that would be great. We would love to get your name out there and let people know that your business is supporting the Santa Shuffle.
“We also need stuff for loot bags. So, sunflower seeds, Kleenex, pens, buttons, anything. If you have stuff that we can contribute to the runners’ loot bags that they get to pick up that would be awesome. I think they would really like that.”
