Four high-profile Maple Creek businesses have new owners

Posted on October 6, 2025 by Ryan Dahlman

Four high-profile Maple Creek businesses have new owners.

The businesses are Murray Chev, Maple Creek Motor Inn (often known as Jack’s Hotel), Willowbend Hotel, and Triple 7 Car Wash.

Murray Chev, formerly owned by Murray Auto Group, has been bought by Moose Jaw-headquartered Velocity Auto Group.

“It is awesome news,” said Ken Magnus, general manager. “We have a different group as owners, but the same great staff serving the community.”

Magnus said the deal had been in the works for four to five months.

Next door to the dealership is Triple 7 Car Wash, previously run by Jacci Migowsky. It has been bought by Jason Lee, owner of Home Hardware on Jasper Street.

Lee said he had no plans to change his new business at 101 Heritage Avenue.

Further up Highway 21 stands Maple Creek Motor Inn, owned by the Kang family since March. The inn, which is open round-the-clock, has 34 rooms (singles and doubles), liquor store retail, a pub, VLT machines and free WiFi. Jimmy’s kitchen is part of the building, but leased out as a separate entity.

Gurmeen Kang – who goes by “Gurie” – manages the hotel with a small staff. Her husband, Hardeep, is still minding the couple’s welding business in Langley, British Columbia, and comes to Maple Creek whenever he can.

Gurie said she fell in love with Maple Creek during a visit.

“We found the place so peaceful and friendly,” said Gurie, whose children go to school in town.

Running a hotel is a new experience for Gurie. At the welding business, she took on a secretarial and marketing role.

Since the March sale, Gurie has sought to improve the hotel, opening eight “super-deluxe” rooms that had been closed for years. There are also plans to renovate the flooring.

Meanwhile, Gurie’s sister-in-law, Vera Sohi, is now running the Willowbend Hotel at 108 Maple Street with husband, Daljit.

The couple come from Brampton, part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Ontario.

They believe Maple Creek is a great place to raise a family.

“It is a very welcoming community,” said Vera, whose parents live in Maple Creek. “It feels like the whole town is family. People are very open, and very personable.”

Vera has up to 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She has also worked as a licensed RBC insurance advisor.

The Willowbend Hotel sale went through on September 19.
