Let’s all sing the praises of Maple Creek’s Johannah Marcella Salvador.

The 12-year-old Flipino songbird won a Taste of Philippines singing contest at Seafood City, Calgary, on Sunday, August 2.

Her powerful rendition of Rise Up saw her rise above a dozen other Filipino contestants and earn the title of “Topsa Little Singing Superstar”.

She received a trophy, certificate of appreciation (see photo inset, above right) and cash.

Among those watching were her parents Jonard Salvador, who runs Jo-Pro Cleaning & Painting Services in Maple Creek, and his wife, Cheryl, an accounting clerk for the Town of Maple Creek.

“We are very proud of her,” said Jonard.

Johanna, whose favourite singers include Morissette Amon and Sarah Geronimo, has tasted success before, coming 2nd in the same contest.
