: Making connections: Thursday’s community lunch was an opportunity to network, as well as enjoy a turkey and dessertBy Marcus Day

A new Maple Creek office to open soon, new faces in leadership roles, and plans for more programming – times are changing for the Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP).
One of those excited by ECIP’s future is Maple Creek’s mayor Michelle McKenzie.
She said Town Council had held many conversations about putting on more programs and activities to benefit youth.
“I think ECIP is a great opportunity for us to work together.”
McKenzie spoke after attending a free Thanksgiving Community Lunch organized by the ECIP Swift Current & District.
It was held at Cobble Creek Lodge, Maple Creek, between 11am and 3pm on Thursday (October 8).
Shylo Mosquito, helped by daughter, Lilly, prepared a meal that included turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, buns, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, salad, and dessert. Caroline Mosquito made bannock.
Attendance was strong. As well as food and connection, there were also door prizes, and a crafts table where Alicia Dyck and daughter, Katie, helped children tap into their creative side.
“I just want to say what a great Thanksgiving lunch it was with ECIP,” said McKenzie. “It was a great meal, thanks to Shylo Mosquito, and it was so nice to see such a great turnout.
“I’m really looking forward to the conversations about partnering with ECIP on upcoming programs, including the Children’s Christmas Party and the Youth Retreat in Cypress Hills in March 2027.”
McKenzie said she was proud of Roberta Francis and Lori Davis’s daughter, Falanne, for taking on new ECIP roles.
“They have some big shoes to fill, but they are energetic and see the benefits ECIP can bring to our community.
“ECIP is for the community, not just Nekaneet.”
McKenzie said she believed that under Wayne Cormier’s leadership as executive director, the ECIP program will continue to grow, evolve and get even better.
“I’m looking forward to the conversations and to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
Cormier said the ECIP would be opening an office soon in Maple Creek.
