It was a cold night when the U9 Eatonia/Fox Valley River Kings and the Maple Creek Hawks met at Fox Valley Arena.
The Hawks began the scoring at 21:15 in the first period with a goal by Jake Wagner. Halfway through the first period, Parker Schmaltz  tied it up, and with four minutes left, Kasen Lothammer put the River Kings ahead by one.
The Hawks came on strong in the second period, scoring five goals. Weston Wasilow got a hat trick, and a fourth with 10 seconds left on the clock. The other goal, was scored by Shay Drever. Erik Solie added one for the River Kings at 4:10 in the second period. Kasen Lothammer got his hat trick midway through the third period with two goals 18 seconds apart. The Hawks’ Ty Roberts put in another last minute goal with 19 seconds left, making the score 7 – 5 for the Hawks. It was an exciting game.
Vaughn Larock, Deonte Fuerstenburg, Luca Dirk, Shea Swan, Asher Swan, Jace Checkley, and Luke Longmuir also gave it their all for the River Kings. Jensen Lothammer was the goal tender.  Madden Dirk was called up from the U7 team to fill in. Also on the Hawks’ team were Stirling Broder, Mason Taypotat, Chace Stokke, Randen Schlageter, Allie Roberts, Lachlan Williams, Sammie Siefert, Brynn Schneider, Jace Fordice, Easton Behrman, and Avery Eiserman. Konner Wasilow was the net minder. Ty Wagner and Gavin Ross refereed the game. Bonnie Bulbeck was the winner of the 50/50.
Volunteers were busy clearing everything out of the community hall last week. Everything had to be moved or disposed of to get ready to build the new hall. Stay tuned for more news on the progress on the building.
