SWAC Media Report (Sept. 9)

Welcome back to SWAC school sport (SouthWest Athletic Conference) Fall sports are all up and running in 5 activities (golf, cross country, soccer, football and volleyball).

FOOTBALL

We have four football teams registered this season, SCCHS is 12 man, Shaunavon is 9 man, MapleCreek is 2A-6 man and Gull Lake is 1A-6 man.  The teams play in leagues that will determine if they advance to the SHSAA playoffs (Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association).

NIne-man Shaunavon opened their regular season on the road to Fort Qu’Appelle.  It was a great start to the season as the Shadows came away with a 14-8 victory.  Shaunavon has a bye next week and will have a home game vs Lumsden on Friday, Sept 18.

Twelve-man SCCHS played at home vs Estevan on Saturday, Sept 5 for their first regular season game. The home town team did not disappoint and won 44-22.  The Colts will next host on Thursday, Sept 10 vs Greenall.

Six-man Gull Lake and Maple Creek will play their first league games on Friday, Sept 11. Maple Creek hosts Eatonia and Gull Lake will travel to Southey.

GOLF

Senior district golf (Gr. 9-12) is on Tuesday, Sept 15 (hosted by Shaunavon). Junior district golf is Tuesday, Sept. 22 in Eastend. Grades 7 and 8 compete at the junior level, and if we have room on the course Grade 5 and 6 may be able to take part, also.

Grade 9-12 SHSAA provincial golf is hosted by Humboldt on Sept. 25/26.

CROSS COUNTRY

SWAC district cross county is being hosted by Eastend (Streambank Golf Course) on Thursday, October 8.  Athletes from Grade 3-12 can compete.

Grade 9-12 SHSAA Provincial championship is Saturday, October 17 at Table Mountain.

VOLLEYBALL

Senior teams have registered for a SWAC arranged league. Draws will be finalized this week. Junior teams organize their own leagues/exhibition games.

Oct. 31 – Junior Sectional playoffs

Nov. 7 – Junior Districts

Nov. 7 – Senior girls provincial playoffs begin

Nov. 14 – Senior boys provincial playoffs begin

SCCHS will host the 2026 5A boys provincial championship on November 20/21.

SOCCER

The SCCHS Ardens will host the SHSAA provincial girls soccer championship on October 30/31.

OFFICIATING

The SHSAA offers an online youth volleyball clinic on Tuesday, Sept. 8.  Check out the SHSAA.ca site for a free registration link. The clinic is geared to youth officials and novice adult officials.

SWAC Beginner volleyball (on court) officiating clinics are being held on Wednesday, Sept. 9 (in Leader) and Thursday, Sept 17 (in Gull Lake).  Contact your local school for more details.
