Posted on August 11, 2015 by Maple Creek

STUDER – Merle Velma Studer age 85 of Shaunavon passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre in Shaunavon.
Merle was born July 8, 1930, the only child of Velva (Widdifield) and Lester Otto of Frontier. She was raised in the Eastbrook and Eastend areas; she stayed with her grandparents and went to Uxbridge School for a period of time. In her younger years she worked as a nurse’s aide.
She met Lloyd Studer and they were married on July 5, 1949. Together they had two sons, Gary and Calvin. Merle and Lloyd lived on the same family farm as Nick and Anna Studer in the Klintonel District where they all farmed together.
Merle kept very busy raising children and helping on the farm as well as being secretary of the Klintonel School Board until its closing. She enjoyed spending time tending her garden, visiting with friends, family and neighbors. She also enjoyed reading and playing cards. She has commented that her favorite place was living on the farm and taking care of the animals.
Merle and Lloyd sold the farm and moved to Shaunavon in 1975 where she was employed by the Shaunavon Long Term Care Home in the dietary department until she retired.
After Lloyd’s passing, Merle stayed in her own home for a few more years and when the house became too difficult for her to manage she chose to apply to live in Evergreen Villas in Shaunavon where she remained until 2013 when she moved to the Shaunavon Long Term Care Centre.
Merle was predeceased by her parents, her youngest son Calvin in 1987, her husband Lloyd in 1998 and her oldest son Gary in 2012.
She is survived by her two nieces Loraine Hart-Tongs and Mariann Johnston and families as well as by other extended family. She stated that she wanted her family to remember her for always loving them and helping them in any way she could. A message that Merle left for family and friends: please don’t mourn for me, remember me as someone who always loved you, no matter what you did. Always work hard and get ahead in the world and take care of your health.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon with Minister Shelby Kinrade officiating.
