Martinson, Frances Helen

Posted on October 20, 2016 by Maple Creek

MARTINSON – Frances Helen Martinson was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Medicine Hat, Alta., to Buster and Evelyn Wilson.  The world was blessed that day! As a youngster she grew up on a sheep ranch 60km northwest of Maple Creek, Sask. She was home schooled when she was young, but later attended public schools in Hatton and Golden Prairie.  At the age of 11 her father passed away and then the family moved to Maple Creek. She grew up with two sisters, June and Anne, and one brother, Jim.  She graduated from high school in Maple Creek and while in school she loved to participate in sports.  She was an amazing athlete. She played many sports but her love was curling. Over her career she accumulated a lot of wins and played the sport until she couldn’t play anymore.
She was married to Orville Martinson and had one son named Joel Christian Martinson.  She moved to Swift Current to start a career with the RCMP. She was honored for 25 years of service!  While living in Swift Current she was very active with coaching little league baseball, curling and golfing. (She got a hole in one at the Maple Creek Golf Club on Hole 2!) She was the best mother to her son Joel. She blessed him by putting him in every sport he wanted to play and cheered him on with everything he did. She enjoyed being a hockey mom, going on road trips with other parents, and later opening her home to hockey players and friends from all over. She welcomed everyone to her home and everyone knew and loved Fran.
Once she was retired she went on to move to Calgary.  While in Calgary she enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with her grandchildren Ethan, Hunter, Ireland and Lyla.  After 10 years in Calgary her and Orville decided to move to Brooks to be close to their beloved friends Danny and Max Isabelle, and Gayle and Allan Mosher. They spent lots of time at Cypress Hills Park camping and having fun with great friends. She also loved her visits up to Edmonton to see her grandchildren, who kept her very busy during her visits at the swimming pools, hockey rinks, soccer fields and golf courses! Fran had an incredible joy for life, you could tell with her wonderful smile.  She will be missed by anyone who knew her.  She was loved by everyone but especially her family.
Fran Martinson is survived by her husband Orville Martinson; her son Joel Martinson and his partner Jennifer Davis; her grandchildren Tianna, Zoe, Ethan, Hunter, Ireland, and Lyla; her brother Jim and his family; Anne Burton and her family and all other loving family and friends.
