Eleanor Ruth Drever

Posted on September 20, 2018 by Maple Creek

Eleanor was born July 1, 1947 in Toronto, the second daughter to Frank and Mary Loates.

Eleanor spent her childhood in Toronto, Guelph, and Cambridge, Ontario and the family lived for a short period of time in Cincinnati, Ohio.

On September 15, 1970, Eleanor married Hartley Drever and moved to Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Together, they raised 8 children.

Eleanor returned to Ontario from 1994 to 2003 and developed many strong friendships and raised her four youngest sons in Ontario. She fondly remembered this era. Upon reconciliation with Hartley, Eleanor moved back to Maple Creek, where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Eleanor was a creative person and loved spending any free time making flower arrangements, wreaths, wedding arrangements, sewing, and would meticulously decorate the most amazing birthday cakes for her children. She never did much for herself, but selflessly helped others in their time of need; she would empty her cupboards bare or donate her much-needed funds for any family in need and sewed blankets for babies at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She had an affectionate appreciation for Archie comic books, which has been passed to many of her siblings and children. She loved the Toronto Blue Jays and would try to catch as many games on TV as possible.

With eight children, she learned to be very frugal. She clipped coupons and knew the best price for everything in town, grew a large vegetable garden (even though she hated every moment of it) and would proudly share the very low average price-per-person of her delicious meals.

Eleanor loved babies, and when her own children were grown, was delighted by her grandchildren.

Eleanor is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Loates in 2012 and 2013, respectively, and mother-inlaw, Marie Drever (2017) and brothe-rin-law, Benjamin Drever (1982). She is survived by her husband, Hartley, siblings Diane Sanford, Dave Loates (Sharon), Barb Hope (Danny), Mark Loates (Lorraine), Doug Loates (Christine), Debbie Church (David), and Allison Sibley (Dan), her father-in-law, Maurice Drever, in laws Albert Drever (Debbie), Heather Bowyer (Don), Bernice Widmer (Brent), and Esther Nagel (Don). Her children live far and wide throughout Canada and the USA. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Lynette Diener (Dan), Mike Drever (Charr), Leanne Sandau (Sheldon), Kim Drever (Teague Materi), Shane Drever, Todd Drever (Krista), Aaron Drever (Jennifer) and Jordan Drever.

Her grandchildren provided her so much enjoyment. She is survived by Ashley, Abigail, Tyler, and Chantelle Diener; Karleigh and Addison Drever; Trinton Sandau; Jaxson, Kaija and Chloe Drever; Madison and Emmaleigh Drever; and Kennedy and Jasper Drever.

She loved her numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Salvation Army (which aided her significantly in her time of need), or any mental health cause.

The family would like to personally thank Kevin and Kathryn Hope, Dan and Barb Hope, and Trevor and Susan Hope for their caring and assistance over the years. In addition, they also thank the nurses at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility.

She passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 23, 2018, in Swift Current at Cypress Regional Hospital.
